John James Audubon's Birds of America prints contain the script "Drawn from nature".  Generally, he composed these drawings while in nature as well.  To accomplish this, he spent long months in the field, carrying with him his art supplies and this portable desk.  You may see this desk at the New-York Historical Society, in New York City.
