"Princetons are simply the finest Audubon Facsimiles ever produced!"
William Steiner, Audubon author
and collector
Facsimiles are the same size as the
antique originals.
Depicted at left is our facsimile of the Snowy Owl, plate 121 from John
James Audubon's Birds of America. This fine art print, as with
all of our facsimiles, measures a full 26 1/4" x 39 1/4" on very heavy,
acid-free paper. This is the most common trim size for the actual originals.
Most originals are trimmed since they were commonly removed from large
books, and visible binding holes were often trimmed away before they were
individually framed.
The fade-proof inks for this
edition were often specially developed, such as the yellow for the piercing
eyes you see here. We used up to 11 colors for this edition.
This particular print was even sent through the presses a second time just
to deepen the dark foreboding sky. |
