ALIVE AND MOVING!  John James Audubon wrote, "...nothing, after all, could ever answer my enthusiastic desires to represent nature, except to copy her in her own way, alive and moving!"  True to his desire, and unlike scientific illustrations of his day, Audubon’s compositions were ‘alive and moving’ in natural settings, and life size as well. However, to this Audubon adds, "Merely to say, that each of my illustrations is of the size of nature, were too vague ... Not only is every object, as a whole, of the natural size, but also every portion of each object. The compass aided me in its delineation, regulated and corrected each part, ... The bill, the feet, the legs, the claws, the very feathers as they project one beyond another, have been accurately measured." John James Audubon. Ornithological Biography, Volume 1

SERIOUS COLLECTORS ONLY:

We are in the process of liquidating these Audubon prints from an old Scottsdale estate here in Arizona. All six of these Audubon prints appear to be in good to excellent condition and have been professionally cared for. They were framed and matted in matching frames and mats at a shop in Scottsdale, AZ   several years ago. We want to sell the entire collection together, but may consider selling them individually, depending on interest and offers. Please email jangrams@mac.com with any questions or to discuss further.

Bien Edition, Plate 375 American Flamingo, dated 1860.  The print itself measures 27" X 38".  As you know the plate was limited to 106 sheets and was halted due to the outbreak of the Civil War and it is estimated that only 50 sets were published.  The condition and color of my print have been described as "exceptional"  by both Audubon Prints Limited Partnership and Audubon House and Tropical Gardens.  Certificate of Authenticity included as pictured.  Print is currently in an oversized frame and hangs 15' off the floor in a gallery.  $52,000 includes an outstanding frame.

The following plates from the desirable 1971-72 Amsterdam Edition of The Birds of America are offered for sale at very attractive prices.  Each plate has been kept in archival storage, is in excellent condition and bears the identifying watermark of the Amsterdam edition.  Whether you buy a less expensive Amsterdam print or a higher-end Amsterdam print, the quality is impressive.  These were manufactured to the highest standards of their time and were expensive when issued.  They are distinguished by being the first full-size replicas made of the original Havell edition and were limited to 250 sets.  I have many other plates available in addition to those shown below.  Please ask for your favorite before you pay more elsewhere!
